Within each country, based on the population and demand, they can have multiple area codes with varying no. of digits. Also, in many cases, numbering system will differentiate landline numbers from mobile numbers.

The same country codes or numbering system will be used by variety of services like cellular phones, fixed phones, pagers, special services etc. Each service can have its own special dial instructions like, for example, ‘911’ is dialed in case of emergency in United States with out any area codes.

Roaming Profiles: In case of cellular phones, its possible with it can be carried over to a other countries but still access the same number with parent country / area codes. This is supported when the telecom operator who issued and mange the number supports it.
